Dear Friend of Joe “Goople” McCloskey,
The Officers and members of the Joseph C. McCloskey Charitable Fund hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.
We start 2015 with the Fund now standing with $26,362.75 in the bank.
The Fund is proud to announce that we have assisted the youth of Tacony by awarding two (2), $2,000.00 college scholarships in 2014. The Elizabeth McCloskey Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Heather Wood who is attending Chestnut Hill College and the John L Sullivan Memorial Scholarship was awarded to George Abbott who is attending Holy Family University. The awards were based on the applicant’s academic achievement and community involvement. Information and pictures can be found on the Fund’s website:
On November 8, 2014 the Fund awarded our first, TACONY YOUTH GRANT. The St. John Neumann Youth Group of Northeast Philadelphia, Our Lady of Consolation Parish, was given a donation of $1,000.00. The award was based on the Fund’s application process. The Grant was presented to the founder and director, Michael Hogan Jr. (See website for pictures.)
We conclude 2014 by congratulating all those who made life better for the youth of Tacony. Your generosity helps keep the legacy of Officer McCloskey alive. We now feel the Fund more closely represents the work of Officer McCloskey when we concentrate our efforts assisting the young adults of Tacony.
As part of our Three Year Plan the officers of the Fund have decided to move forward and commission a plaque in honor of Officer McCloskey. We have begun the process of the design with a goal to dedicate the memorial in late spring of this year. The dedication would coincide with the awarding of our college scholarships. Information and updates will be on the website as the process moves forward.
